5 Reasons Why Should You Take a Nile River Cruise

Dear Traveler,

If you have any remote interest in ancient history and culture a trip to Egypt will transform the way you see life. It has transformed my way of seeing it...
When you arrive in the country and see the dusty roads, the traffic, and poverty, It is hard to imagine that this land was home to an advanced and thriving civilization, dating back to more than four millennials. Nevertheless, the evidence for it still exists and your first encounter with it will be seeing the Pyramids at Giza. My friend and I spent two weeks in Egypt, and one of the best experiences we had was taking a river cruise from Aswan and Luxor.
Here are few reasons to consider why to take a river cruise on the Nile:

                                                                                Royal Princess River Cruise
  • Convenience
Nile River was perceived by the Ancient Egyptians as the main source of food and life. Naturally, the majority of Ancient Egyptian Temples (such as Luxor & Karnak, Philae Temple, Kom Ombo, and Edfu) were built either right on the bank of the river or within a short horse carriage or a boat transfer.
A quick note: While some travelers choose to visit only Luxor and Karnak Temples, the most beautifully preserved are those from the Ptolemaic period (nearly 1500 years later than Luxor and Karnak complex) and they are near the city of Aswan.
  • Comfort
The boats ran by local and international tour operators are typically four or five stars, under 150 guests and offer full amenities on board (restaurants, massage room, bar, pool deck). After or before touring the temples, guests can enjoy leisure time on the pool deck watching the ever-changing scenery passing by.

  • Great value for your money
The cruises run by local tour operators include all meals during the day, comfortable cabins, and entertainment. The service was intimate and attentive- at the end of the 1st day, all the staff knew our names! Luxury tour operators typically also include alcoholic beverages and excursions.
  • Relaxation
After spending few days in extremely busy Cairo stuck in a good portion of the day in traffic, our three-night river cruise from Aswan to Luxor felt so relaxing! The temple excursions were scheduled either in the early morning before the temperatures start peaking up or early evening.
The nights on the river were quiet and romantic, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

                                                                                               Nile River
  • Unpack once
After spending two weeks in Egypt and changing four different hotels, now I can truly appreciate the convenience of not packing/unpacking luggage every few days. The boat feels like a floating boutique hotel, the only difference was that your luggage travels with you.

PS: Egypt is safe to travel to! After my return, I strongly believe that the media is exaggerating and is the main source of fear. The Egyptian government has taken more security measures than I've seen in my recent travels, locals are friendly and helpful and there are check and security points everywhere. Since the revolution, the Egyptian economy has been badly suffering and now the country needs us more than ever!
